NY State Open ID (January 31, 2016)
Peyton is a well put together 6-foot-1 187 pound RHP/OF who ran a 7.25 60 and a 4.12 home-to-1B. Offensively- Peyton sets up in a narrow stance with his hands just off his shoulder. Uses a short load with an up-down stride. May benefit from some spacing/separation either within his stance or timing to free up as actions are a bit stiff. Levels out early with a big up hill finish. Hard contact with line drive results, plenty of late energy available driving through the zone. Exit velocity was 78 MPH. Defensively- Peyton looks more comfortable setting up behind flyballs, keeping his momentum in line with the catch and driving through with a crowhop. On the ground, he often fields the ball in front, similar to an infielder, disrupting his transition into throwing. Arm strength is suitable at 79 MPH. Pitching- On the mound is where Peyton projects the best. Working from center rubber, he uses a short side step up to a mid chest balance point. Arm action stays at the belt line, working through a high 3/4 - over the top slot. Continues to work downhill with and aggressive finish over his front side, getting good arm extension and also exhibiting back leg drive. Heavy FB that sat 79-80 MPH, touching 81 MPH. Squeezes 2S FB some, causing it to lose some life. Curveball is second best pitch with 12-to-6 shape at 66-68 MPH. Showed a feel for his change at 70-71 MPH with some split like action. Big strong player that with some lengthened arm action, may even have more in the tank velocity wise.
