6/24/15 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter. Started from a square stance and strode slightly closed. Short load and body stayed still during swing that had some length due to barrel wrap. Ran a 7.85 60-yard-dash and 4.85 in-game home-to-1B time. Showcased 79-mph exit velocity (was 83-mph the previous week) and 78-mph arm strength during workout. Exhibited good hands defensively. Would benefit from shortening his release time (currently shuffle-shuffle with long arm swing and over-the-top slot) on throws.
6/24/15 6-foot, 180-pound frame. Pitched entirely from the stretch out of a high three-quarter slot. At times, tried to be too quick to the plate with runners on base, not allowing his arm a chance to catch up. Fastball sat 77-78 for the second straight week, while he showed a better feel for spinning his curveball at 65-66 with solid 11/5 action that he used more as a chase than a grab-a-strike pitch.
6/17/15 6-foot-, 180-pound right-handed hitter. Started from a slightly open stance and took a big stride to a wide base. Swing has some length, but he showed some pullside pop in BP that he could tap into even more if he were to more fully incorporate his backside into his swing. Posted in-game best home-to-1B time of 4.84. Showcased 83-mph exit velocity and 77-mph arm strength during workout. Defensively, he set up well behind the baseball and gained ground on his throws with a long, over-the-top release.
6/17/15 Medium frame (6-foot, 180-pounds). Pitched out of a high three-quarter slot from a drop-and-drive delivery. In one inning of work, his arsenal featured a fastball at 77-78 that was fairly straight and a curveball at 66-68 with a big 11/5 break when he got on top of it.
8/10/14 Vaniel showed promise at the plate going 3-for-5 in game action over the course of two days. The 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed hitter displayed a flat swing path from a square stance with a lift and replace stride to create a bat exit velocity of 77 mph. Vaniel flashed good feet and the ability to play through the baseball at 3B with a developing 73 mph arm across the diamond. Vaniel sat 74-75 with cut action to his 4-seam fastball off the mound. The righty also throws a 2-seam fastball at the same velocity that displayed arm side run. Vaniel's 67 mph curveball had slurve action and was commanded for strikes. Vaniel has a projectable frame and exhibited athletic actions on the day. He will need to continue to build arm strength and become more physical in his actions to continue to progress towards his goal of playing at the next level.
