4/15/15 Worked 5 solid innings topping at 86 mph while sitting 83-85 with the ability to spot four pitches. Raines also commanded an 11/5 curveball at 71 mph, a 77 mph cutter and a changeup with good arm speed at 75 mph. Raines works from a high 3/4 arm slot with a hip coil delivery. He has a solid 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame and showed athletic actions at the plate.
4/9/14 Raines worked 82-84 with his FB out of a 3/4 slot. He is aggressive and pitches with an up-tempo delivery that features some funk and a bit of effort (at times, a shoulder jerk inhibits his release point and extension). He has a good feel for a 68-71 slider, although it varied in shape depending on his release point. Raines also showed a CH at 73-74.
2/16/14 Raines displayed command of his fastball that sat 80-81 out of a 3/4 arm slot. While the pitch was flat he did show the ability to throw it consistently for strikes. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound righty also displayed a 70 mph curveball with slurve action, a 71 mph changeup and 76 mph cutter. The changeup was one of the best at the event with sinking action at fastball arm speed. Raines' cutter gives him a second complimentary pitch that can get outs. He showed solid command of the cutter that showed late movement down in the zone.
