Zach Fascia C/RHP (Turner Fenton, Ontario 2016)
9-7-14
Fascia has next level prowess behind the dish. The skilled catcher uses athletic mechanics with a quick transfer to an over the top slot. His arm strength is plus at 81 mph, pop times were 2.00-2.06 (1.91 6/21) showing some signs of a long season. The upside is high for fascia behind the dish. At the plate he bats from the left side, with balance through his swing. He stays inside the ball, bat travels slightly on the incline with a high finish. Exit velocity was 78 mph.
8-16-14
Fascia stands 6-foot-1 190-pounds with a great body for a catcher. Behind the plate he stays low and athletic and receives the ball clean and smooth with a fast transfer and plus footwork getting lined up with his throw. He throws from a high ¾ slot with arm strength of 82 mph (Seen him higher). His pop time was 2.02 (6-21-14 had him 1.91 all day) and accurate. With the bat he swings from the left side with a balanced approach. He uses a back knee load with a swing path slightly inclined through the zone. He hands stay inside the ball, uses long extension through contact with a high balanced finish. He ran a 4.39 home to first time.
6-21-14
Fascia stands 6-foot-1 190 pounds and looks like a next level catcher now. Fascia receives the ball very nice and works with very quick footwork and ball to hand transfer. Pop times were all consistent at 1.91-1.92 on all throws and accurate. Fascia swings a nice stick from the left side with a knee to knee load and balanced approach. Pitching - Fascia has good size at 6-foot-1 190 pounds. He showed good arm strength sitting 84-86 mph on the fastball. He has good action on the ball and threw a lot of strikes. His curveball had some sharp spin with 11/5 shape at 65-68 mph. Fascia is a baseball junky and work horse. He projects as a catcher (1.91 pop times all day) at the next level but has pitching in his back pocket. He will only get better.
2/29/20:A senior catcher, Fascia was the top defensive backstop in the Cambria College Classic. He showed a plus arm with short, direct footwork to second base for a quick release and a 1.93 POP time. As a junior in 2019 the left-handed hitter slashed .277/.351/.396 and came into this tournament with a .375 batting average. He went 2-for-8 with a pair of walks at the plate. With another solid season in 2020, look for Fascia to be considered as a money saving senior in the Top 10 rounds this June. (Seifert)
10/9/19:Purdue’s 2019 Offensive Player of the Year, seniorCZac Fascia, looks poised to build upon a solid 2019 campaign (.277/.351/.396 with four home runs and 10 doubles). Fascia began the workout with a 6.72 60-yard dash (good speed for a catcher) before popping 1.96-to-2.03 behind the dish, showing solid footwork and accuracy. During BP, the senior showcased a short load, good hips and some whip in the barrel, generating some explosion to the gaps. He brought that explosion to the inter-squad portion of the day, as well, launching a deep flyout to center and a double to the right-center gap on an inside fastball before rolling over a quality changeup in his final AB.
