Mitcham was stellar for the Toronto Mets all week long in Sanford, Florida. The 6-foot-1, 158-pound catcher, displayed his tools at the plate and behind it, being named the Player of the Day on Tuesday. Mitcham’s approach at the plate is simple, from the right side he starts with his hands low, before loading them back to create separation and coming forward with a flat plane. He uses the middle of the field, hitting the ball where it’s pitched. On Scout Day, Mitcham recorded a 2.09 pop-time, as well as throwing it down to second up to 74 mph. Mitcham is an uncommitted 2020 who started his Junior season with a bang at Boombah.
7/5/17 Mitcham has continued to show steady improvement to his game over the summer as he has grown in all areas. At the plate, the swing has more rhythm and generates well to contact, he gets on time and in good position to hit. Line drive guy who works gap to gap. Behind the plate, arm strength has improved, last throw during evals was on money with clean transfer and carry through the bag. Continues to improve game and should see steady improvement to numbers as he adds strength. 60-Yard Dash: 7.86 Exit Velocity: 75 Pop Time: 2.15 C Velocity: 71
10/23/16 2020 grad with young features listed at 5-foot-7, 128-pounds with strength gains and growth remaining. Offensively, hits from the right side with narrow, balanced setup, small stride while hands load back. Length to swing as barrell drops and tends to lift ball, this will change as Mitcham adds strength. Uses lower half well in swing, small corrections and reps will be useful for Mitcham as he matures physically. Defensively, shows some athletic actions in lower half behind the plate, getting stronger in wrists and forearms will help him handle higher velocities, ball had carry to the bag with accuracy, best pop time was 2.22 with velocity of 70 mph. Reps and strength will be biggest key for Mitcham and his development. Shows ability to move well with some speed and athleticism, will follow Mitcham as he develops over the next 3 years.
