2018 grad, Ashurst rana 4.78 down the line from the right side. At the plate, starts slightly open with a small leg kick that dives into the plate on separation, small hitch with hands to trigger, looks to pull baseball and at times will cut off his extension. Exit velocity was 75 mph. Defensively, attacked balls straight up, can take more time with lower half on transfer as he rushed a few of his throws, being able to slow the game down and control body better will be helpful, was clocked at 71 mph across the diamond. On the mound, Ashurst is a three pitch guy. Works from 3/4 slot, arm is clean in the back, gets outfront and drives off backside well. Was in the zone and down for the better part of his bullpen. Curveball had proper rotation with downward action for strikes, at times would cast and try to do too much causing pitch to stay up. Curveball topped out at 67 mph and was his best off speed pitch, suggesting to us that more fastball velocity to come for Ashurst.
3.05.16
Now listed at 5-foot-9, 154-pounds, beginning to add strength and mature as a 2018 grad. Ran a 5.46 in the 40-yard dash. At the plate, Ashurst hits from balanced position, some looseness in the hands with slight hitch for load, regular stride to contact, bat stays upright, can create more torque with bat angle and generate more power as back side collapses through contact. Hand eye is there along with some bat speed through the zone, exit velocity was 77 mph and can jump with some small fixes. Defensively, had some good actions, can attack ball more when right at him, was confident going to left and transfers were clean and quick, showed some athletic movements and actions, was clocked at 67 mph across the diamond. Had control of body, will be interesting to see his development this summer.
6/24/15
2018 grad with room to fill out at 5-foot-8, 130-pounds. Improved bat speed at the plate with an exit velocity of 72 mph. Starts open with medium stride to load, hands are back and loose with hitch to trigger. Works to pull side and tries to get bat head out-front. Defensively, attacks the ball in the middle of body. Made all the plays while moving well to his left. Transfer is clean and gets rid of it. Arm slot was low-3/4 and can benefit from getting on top of ball. Velocity across the infield was 66 mph. Young 2018 with some athleticism and body control.
10/26/14
5-foot-7, 145-pound build. Plenty of time to physically mature. Defensively, stays in front, must continue to work through the ball, tendency to stop feet. Arm played from a ¾ angle at 63 mph. At the plate, Ashurst started slightly open with hands back and up. Needs to get backside through and drive a little more, was aggressive with swings. Exit velocity was 66 mph, 40 time at 5.70.
