2015 grad, 6-foot-1, Iverson shows one of the quickest arms in Ontario. But don’t let his 160-pound frame fool you, Nick has been clocked as high as 91 mph on his fastball with late movement to the arm side, will also cut the ball at times too. He generally sits 86-88 mph with the fastball and his sharp and late breaking ball comes in at 72-73 mph, while his changeup registers at 77-78 mph with heavy, late sink. Iverson has taken his talents out west to BC to finish his final year of high school and looks to project as a D-1 arm with three quality pitches that he can throw for strikes.
8/13/19: Continues to show athletic actions on the bump with a clean, quick arm. His fastball works as a fringe-average offering in the 89-to-92 mph range and the righty continues to work to find consistency with his slider. His changeup has developed into a quality weapon, and the arm action helps project an above-average future for the offering, but the profile lacks impact.
3/28/18 - Dominated a solid Paradise Valley ball club to the tune of 7 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K in a 3-2 CAC victory. The only two runs he allowed were courtesy of an E-1 where he non-chalanted a comebacker after fielding it cleanly and sailed it over the head of the first baseman into the RF corner. Iverson is a solid athlete with a quick pickoff move and the mistake didn’t appear to be characteristic of his athletic ability. His fastball velocity grades out as average, maybe a tick above at 90-93, but I wouldn’t comfortably say it plays to a 55 due to the late life it features. He was able to reach back and touch the higher end of that range when he needed it and has reportedly touched the mid-90’s earlier this spring. With an athletic delivery, quick arm and slight frame, Iverson could project to pitch with a plus fastball down the line, especially if moved to the bullpen. Both secondary pitches presently grade out as below average. He does show some feel to pitch with the breaking ball, despite inconsistent shape and rotation. In the first inning he showed a 79 mph breaker I would deem a slider with shorter lateral break and almost no depth. After that it was more curveball at 75-76 with 11-5 shape, but lacking the late bite of an average breaker. His changeup shows potential to become an average secondary offering as he has confidence in it, with fading action at 77-79, but the arm slows considerably on the pitch. An above average competitor who succeeded as a freshman with considerably less stuff in a difficult conference, Iverson should hear his name called in rounds 7-10 as a potential back end starter or more likely a bullpen piece where his stuff might tick up.
