At the plate, hits from a balanced approach, hands ready to hit. Potential with strength gains to have serious pop. Will stay middle of the field, won't try and do too much. Good looking prospect, will be a high follow guy heading into 2015.
7-6-2018: 6-foot-6, 230 pounds. Big, strong guy at near full maturity. Pull hitter; only worked the left side of the field. Spread stance, swing tended to get a bit long. Strong hands with average-to-above average bat speed. Showed raw power when he blasted a home run to left center on a pitch left up and in. Most other balls he put in play stayed on the ground. Big and powerful frame give him the potential to do some damage, while he has been living on hitting balls hard and on the ground. Strikeout rate is alarming, but has been able to hit for average this summer. Below average running speed, but moved well in the field. Flexible, gets in the right position. Made a nice jumping grab on a line drive smoked above his head. Over the two games I saw him he went two-for-six with a home run and an infield single on a swinging bunt. Also walked once and reached on errors twice while striking out in three of his nine plate appearances. (Jake Stone)
8-1-2018: The imposing 6-foot-6, 230-pounder, certainly is limited in terms of his position — he’s a definite first baseman at the next level. But there’s something to work with here from an offensive standpoint. Warkentin hit .252 with six doubles, 14 homers and 40 RBIs in the spring for the Musketeers, while so far this summer, he’s hitting .317 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs. Warkentin has big-time pop and such a presence in the box. And there’s no doubt he’s been more consistent this summer. However, he needs to be more selective in his approach, as he has struck out 54 times already this summer after striking out 67 times in the spring. If he can show more consistency in 2019, he could be a nice senior sign for someone looking for some serious power in the lineup. (K Rogers)
