Athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, with room to add size and strength. Right-handed hitting first baseman who has also seen time in the outfield. Hit from a wide base with minimal movement in lower half to stride, hands start up and back, looked to stay inside the ball with hard contact when he finished swing through the zone and stayed extended. Exit velocity was 80 mph off the tee, strength gains in the winter will be vital for Howard. Defensively, moved well at first, arm plays with good action in the back, was clocked at 74 mph from position. 2018 grad with good foundation, minor adjustments to swing and added size will be big parts for development for Howard.
8.21.16
Right-handed hitting first baseman/outfielder with good athleticism across the board. Threw 78 from the outfield with good carry and accuracy from right field to third base. Threw 72 mph across from first base to third base as he showed a solid glove and the footwork to stay at first base if need be. Ran a 4.41 down the line on a dig to first base. At the plate, showed a tee exit velocity of 81 mph. Hits out of a wide base, and slight bend at the knees, feet turned in. The bat path is flat and long to the ball as he stays inside the ball at contact. The hands work but he looks tied up as he maneuvers the barrel. The bottom half has a pick up and put down of the front foot, occasionally, the front foot is late getting down. Battled during his at bats in the game, showing a feel for the strike zone, and competing.
