An Oklahoma recruit with an impressive 6-foot-4, 200-pound muscular frame. Cavalli burst onto the draft seen when he returned to play for Bixby HS at the end of the spring season. Offensively, the right-handed hitter shows a middle to pull approach with high end power. He hits from a slightly knock-kneed stance with rhythm in his hand and used a small reverse toe tap or timing. Cavalli is short to the ball with a high finish that creates lift. Defensively, the SS shows good hands, athletic movements, an elite arm with accuracy. On the mound is where Cavalli is garnering the most attention, the right-hander pitches with an up tempo delivery, full arm circle, and high-3/4 slot, all of which he repeats well. His fastball shows some downhill tilt in the bottom of the zone at 91-94 mph. The slider is Cavalli’s best off speed offering, thrown with full arm speed and shows late 10/4 action at 81-86 mph.  The curveball has big 11/5 shape and sits 76-77 mph. Cavalli can also mix in a changeup with some fade at 80-82 mph.  Cavalli shows control with all four pitches.

2020 DRAFT: At 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Cavalli has the look of a big league ace, think Gerrit Cole. With a loose, clean, repeatable arm action, he settles in at 94-96 (touching 98) and works easy with his heater. Although the pitch is fairly straight, it will flash some arm-side run and shows plus control of the pitch at times by working it to all quadrants of the strike zone. At his best he's able to set up hitters with a pair of breaking pitches; an 84-85 mph above average curveball with sharp bite and a plus 88-89 mph hard slider. He works the slider away from right-handed bats, and then goes to the elevated fastball, inducing swing-and-miss with both pitches. Cavalli's changeup flashes average, and working off his fastball and slider, it can play up. Overall, there is some risk to the profile with more stuff than top performance to date and a 70-grade fastball velocity that plays down, which is due to the fair deception that his silky-smooth delivery creates and a lack of down angle to the plate. There is also a history of injuries with back troubles as a prep and a missed pair of starts last April with forearm stress. However, the upside is tremendous as Cavalli has the potential to develop into a frontline starter and will likely be considered in the top half of the first round.

2/28/20: Cavalli, a 6-foot-4 220-pound, big-bodied right-handed pitcher, had a nice outing for the first four innings of the game. He was sitting 95-96 mph, touching 97 mph with a sharp, swing and miss slider in the mid-80’s and a changeup that was 88-91 mph with good depth. Through the first four innings, he had seven strikeouts and one hit with no walks. In the 5th inning, he allowed a single and then back-to-back home runs before striking out the side to end his outing. 7/2/19: Athletic, strong framed righty who stands 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and looks more like an NFL Tight End. Cavalli profiles as a starting pitcher with a simple, clean and well-balanced delivery to go along with good arm action. He earned the W during his two inning appearance for the CNT Blue squad, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts and followed it up with two scoreless and hitless innings against the Coastal Plain Select squad. He works down the hill and showed very good arm strength, leveraged from a high three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 94-98 mph, yet it played lighter and found some barrels due to the lack of life and deception. Typically, his best pitch is a low-80s plus downer curveball, but he did not attempt to throw it very often. Instead he relied on an 88-89 mph cutter shaped slider and an occasional 90 mph changeup. Previously seen as a freshman during Opening Weekend of the ‘18 college season and July ‘18 in the Cape Cod League, Cavalli continues to improve each look and is a first round follow for 2020. 4/5/19: The sophomore righthander took advantage of pitching in a game against a potential first rounder by lighting up the radar gun on his own. At 6-foot-4 226-pounds, Cavalli has the look of a tight end in football and it shows when he came out touching 96 several times. With a loose, clean, repeatable arm action, Cavalli settled in at 93-94 with his fastball flashing some arm-side run and showing plus command of the pitch at times by working it to all quadrants of the strike zone. He was able to setup hitters with a slider that flashed plus at times with it's sharp, biting action away from righties. He routinely would go slider away then fastball up to induce swing-and-miss with both pitches. He even backdoored the slider to lefties several times. Cavalli's changeup flashed average, but working off his fastball and slider it played up causing fits for TCU hitters. Command of all pitches became spotting in the and carried into the fifth which was his final inning. He scattered eight hits in his five innings of work throwing 106 pitches in this start. (Lukach)

2/22/18 - 6’4/225, R/R, Freshman, 1B/RHP- Has big time raw power at the plate, yet it’s his arm that intrigues scouts the most. Cavalli sat 91-94 with his fastball and showed a hard downer curveball at 80-82 mph in his two-thirds inning of work. It’s a big arm on a strong, athletic frame with a clean delivery and real good arm action. He’s a potential top round pick in the 2020 draft.

8/20/18: Physical, extra big bodied prospect at six-foot-five, 220 pounds. Strength throughout frame. Simple delivery. Keeps stride/direction in line with catcher. Clean arm action but arm slot varies between high and over the top. Inability to repeat the same slot has led to command issues. 15 BB in 13 IP this summer. Fastball sat mostly 89-93 mph, peaked at 94. Shows downward plane at times but lacks consistent movement. Overall, relatively straight offering. Best pitch is power curveball with sharp, downer action at 84-86 mph. CB is especially tough on hitters when he establishes the FB for a strike. Pitchability still developing. Good athlete who saw time as a two-way player during 2018 season at Oklahoma. Projects better as a RHP who could end up going in the top rounds for the 2020 draft. (Seifert)
