5-foot-10, 135-pound thin build. Layne’s best tool is his defensive ability in the infield. He showed athletic actions and very quick transfer. Feet work well and he is able to play through the baseball. Fringy arm strength at this point. At the plate he starts in an athletic setup before taking his hands back during his short stride before taking a level path to the ball. A line drive hitter that consistently found the barrel in batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 83 mph. Choppy rhythm in his delivery. Does a great job of using his lower half in the delivery. Wraps a little on his back arm action. Shows quick arm speed into a ¾ slot. Fastball sat 77-80 mph. Curveball sat 65-71 mph with gradual 10/4 break. Changeup sat 69-70 mph.
