A very projectable right-hander on the mound at 6-foot-5, 185-pounds. The Ball State commit features an efficient, low effort delivery that he can repeat. Arm is long/loose with obvious whip through a near ¾ slot. Creates easy velocity on his 85-87 mph fastball that will run consistently. Maintains armspeed on his 80-81 mph changeup that has similar run to his fastball. Displayed decent feel for the offering. Breaking ball has tight action with present depth and a slurvish look at 75-77 mph. Look for the Ball State commit to only get better as he still has more projection left on frame.
6/6/17 A talented arm in the 2018 class with a high ceiling. Stands 6-foot-4 with long limbs and room to add strength. Arm moves through an in between ¾ and high-¾ slot with obvious arm speed. Fastball showed heavy run at times sitting 86-88 mph. Breaking ball is sharp with depth at 73-75 mph. McCarty works quick on the mound and throws with confidence.
2/12/17 6-foot-4, 170-pound athletic frame. Uncommitted 2018 RHP Ethan McCarty has made the most of his offseason. The Edgewood product looked more physical than he was in the summer. On the mound, he shows an improved delivery with clean, quick arm action. The improvements translated into a velocity jump and noticeably sharper secondary pitches. McCarty consistently sat 86-87 mph with his fastball that was 82-85 mph last summer.
8/2/16 A projectable righty with a 6-foot-4 frame that can flat out pitch. His fastball was consistently 84-85 mph, with the ability to run and cut the pitch. Had feel for both his off speed pitches and was able to throw either pitch for strikes in any count. His curveball isn’t a swing and miss pitch but does enough to be effective, with an 11/5 shape at 65-67 mph. Changeup has a chance to be very good as it has heavy run and sink with a similar look to his fastball out of the hand. Earned a Future Games invitation.
9/29/19 Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Works exclusively from the stretch. Uptempo delivery that requires some effort. Arm comes through a 3/4 slot. Fastball: 85-87 mph. Pitch has some late run and dive to it. Seemingly has more in the tank. Curveball:Slider that has some late bite to it when in the zone. Average to slightly above average offering. 75-77 mph. Changeup: Late dive through the zone. Playable third offering. Pitchability:Mostly in the zone.
