2/12/17 6-foot-4, 190-pound athletic, projectable frame. 2018 RHP Colin Sells, a Kentucky recruit, put his name on the map in a big way at the Future Games. And, he has continued to improve since that time. It is hard not to like the potential when you see Sells long frame and upper 80s fastball. But, on this day, it was his secondary stuff and pitchability that impressed.
8/2/16 The 6-foot-4, righty has a very projectable frame with long limbs and room to fill out. Was very impressive with his ability to work in and out with his 84-87 mph fastball. His best offspeed pitch was his 75-76 mph changeup that he threw near fastball arm speed with substantial run and sink. Also spins a shark breaker with an 11/5 shape at 70 -71 mph. Also showed attributes that make him attractive as a position player. A left-handed swinger that has advanced strength and above average batspeed. Ball comes off his bat well and he showed power potential in batting practice. Reached a top exit velocity of 86 mph with more in the tank. In the outfield he plays through the baseball with fluid footwork. Arm is well above average as he threw to home plate with 86 mph arm strength. At third base he moves light on his feet and flashed some glove skills. Threw across the infield with 84 mph arm strength. Earned a Future Games invitation.
1/18/16 has a projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 160-pounds. On the mound the righty has a smooth delivery that requires some effort and good direction towards home plate. Displayed quickness in his arm from a 3/4 slot. Sells consistently sat 82-84 mph with heavy run on his fastball. He showed good feel for his changeup and flashed a big breaking curveball at a 10/4 tilt. At the plate he used an athletic set up and did an excellent job of gather his weight and transferring it into contact through a leg kick with minimal hand movement. Consistently squared balls up in batting practice with decent pop. Exit velocity was 81 mph. At third base he showed decent footwork with a very quick exchange. Would like to see him play lower. Displayed 82 mph arm strength across the diamond through a low-3/4 slot. Ran a 7.59 60-yard dash.
