Comments
Rylan checks in with an athletic frame at 6-foot-0 and 160 pounds. An above average runner at all prior events, he ran a 6.87 60 today in cooler and windier conditions. Exit Velocity was 77 MPH, a notch under his personal best of 79 MPH. Offensively- Rylan starts from a spread stance with hands even with back shoulder and 30 degree bat angle. Uses a slight wrap of the barrel for a load and a heel lift for a stride, maintaining his wide setup. Aggressive with back foot and hip rotation. Barrel levels out early in hitting zone with a finish that takes him around his back. Shorter swing path into contact with a more extended finish will help use his levers through extension. Line drive type results. Defensively- As an outfielder Rylan maintains an aggressive approach into the ball, setting up his footwork into his crowhop. Throws tend to run some to his arm side. This can easily be fixed with a more aggressive glove arm tuck to help his shoulders rotate in sync. As a catcher Rylan sets up from a compact position with throwing hand behind leg, causing for a delay in transfer. Very quick with his footwork, gains ground and stays low. Throws ranged from 2.10-2.17 today (all throws were into a steady wind). Creates good angles in the dirt and is athletic in his retrieval. Can offer something at both positions at the next level, may project better behind the plate as that type of athletic ability is not often seen there.
CNY Open Showcase (July 15, 2015)
Stands at 6-foot-0, 160 pounds, with an athletic body build. Rylan ran a 6.86 60-yd dash. As a catcher he throws with cut off and after the throw recoils. He receives the ball with smooth, soft hands and has a clean transfer. He blocks the ball nicely and keeps everything in front of him. His arm strength was at 71 MPH. At the plate his setup is relaxed and very balanced, no stride, with a back load. His hands are very compact and strong, swinging on a level plane with long/full extension through the ball, with a mid-section finish through the ball. His exit velocity was 79 MPH. Rylan is a plus outfielder and powerful hitter who shows a lot of potential to progress to the next level in college.
New York Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Has an athletic body, stands at 6-foot-0, 160-pounds. Aggressive instincts and approach in the field and behind the plate, stays out in front of ball when receiving, uses a high-3/4 arm slot with average arm action and quick transfer to release. Begins with a relaxed and balanced setup, starts swing with a smooth back load, keeps hands long through the zone, has some uphill tilt of his bat plane and does not fully extend on swing, potential with good contact ability.
