2/20 - McMullen stands a strong 6-foot-1, 220-pounds. On the mound he uses a quick side step, hands stay high throughout delivery, high knee lift. Arm action is straight back to SS, gets out in front with his stride too early, hands over front knee, releases the ball from an over-the-top slot, head on target, fastball was 75 mph but there’s more in his arm if he can tighten up his mechanics.
McMullen stands 6-foot-1, 220-pounds and built like a tank. On the mound he stays over the rubber well showing body control and balance. Drives off back leg towards home, good shoulder alignment towards target; arm action is long and back, shoulder tilt on release from a high-3/4 slot. Fastball sat 77-78 mph with down action and run arm side. Curveball shows signs of next level spin, late action, 12/6 shape at 67-70. He finishes strong over his front side using long extension. There is definitely more in the velocity tank than we saw 10/18, look for more this spring once he hones his mechanics in.
1B / Hitting - At first he comes off the bag well, fields the ball out in front, stays low, clean exchanged, throws from a high-3/4 slot, infield arm strength at 74 mph. At the plate his setup is relaxed, slightly open and weight back. On the pitch he back loads, small leg lift for timing. He uses a long path, strong hands evidenced by his 85 mph exit velocity, uphill bat plane through the zone, high finish. He ran a 4.41 home to first, 4.50 pro agility time.
