Spring 2016
A West Virginia recruit, the 5-foot-10, 180-pounder is one of the top all-around players in the state and has some eye-popping physical attributes. He runs very well, shows great range in center field, hits for power and can throw his fastball upper-80's, this past summer touched 94. He's developed into one of the best starting pitchers in Section 1 after beginning his high school career as a closer. The fastball has great velocity for this level, and the slider is wipe-out pitch. He seems to swing max-effort in every at-bat, which results in occasional strikeouts, but he also hits a lot of homers (broke the school record last season). He generates a lot of strength in his lower half and has very quick hands. A very intriguing prospect for the next level who could possibly play in the outfield and pitch out of the bullpen.
Border Battle (October 18, 2015)
RHP/OF Frank Vesuvio (Bryam Hills, 2016) showed he's a pitcher first and defender second. The right-hander worked an impressive, clean inning at Marist. His fastball sat 87 (reports up to 93 in Florida) with some arm-side run and a clean, quick arm action. He throws a devastating sweeping slurve that bites sharp late at 74. Adding to that arsenal, Vesuvio spots a change up with arm-side fade at 69-71. At the plate, Frankie hits from a balance stance with minimal movement during his timing phase. Doesn't get cheated with explosive swings and can stay short to the elevated fastball. Above average off-speed ID. Topped the chart on the day with an impressive 95 mph exit velocity.
Frank Vesuvio, RHP/OF, Bryam Hills HS, NY (2016)
Vesuvio stands 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with a solidly built frame. From the mound he uses a side-step, quick tempo - effort delivery, high knee lift, high hands. Sits hard off his back side, shoulders even, gets in front of his arm a little early but hand speed bails him out. Arm action is straight back towards 2B, hand gets high, throws from a high-3/4 slot, fastball sits 87-88, reports up to 90 mph. At the plate Vesuvio uses an athletic approach, on the pitch he strides for timing, back loads. Short compact path to the ball, slight incline through contact, long extension, very aggressive high-level bat. Interesting dual-prospect at the next-level.
