Delgaizo started on the bump for VC, only going 2 innings. He sat 80-82 MPH with a legitimate 1-to-7 curveball (66-68 MPH) that showed late action and great depth. Had 4 punchouts over 2 innings, all with the curveball. Fastball caught too much of the plate when ahead and did not show changeup. Learning to expand the zone with the FB and use the change to get easy outs will help his approach over the long term.
October 24, 2015
Showed a quick bat, ability to use all fields and high finish, finding the gaps. On the mound he was a tick down from his Individual Player Evaluation (IPE) earlier in the week. Sat 79-80 MPH with good command, sharp late action to his curveball at 67 MPH. Change had late downward action at 73 MPH. Another steal for whoever picks him up. Dual position potential at the next level.
Individual Player Evaluation (October 22, 2015)
Dan checks in at an athletic 6-foot-0, 175 pounds. He ran a 7.07 60 and put up an impressive 88 MPH exit velocity. Offensively: Dan starts from a slightly open stance with his feet just outside his shoulders. Stride gains ground a few inches forward along with a slight coil of the hands back. Bat starts and stays in the 45 degree angle range. Stays behind the ball into contact with an aggressive lower half. Also, stays short into the zone with a high finish. Line drive and gap results. Repeats efforts swing to swing. Defensively: Dan is listed as a middle infielder that could handle left side responsibilities if he had to move to 3B. Arm is there with a peak positional velocity of 79 MPH. Stays active with his feet from ready position into fielding the ball. Hands can get under the body at times, creating a delay in his release. Ranges well laterally and can come get the slow one. Should be able to handle 2B/SS/3B with no problems at a higher level. Also runs well enough and has arm strength to move to a corner OF if needed. Pitching: Dan showed plenty of poise on the mound with a repeatable delivery. He uses a small side step and builds momentum nicely to his balance point. Controlled aggression out to his landing, riding back leg with a small amount of flexion. Lands slightly open which may cause his arm to lag at time. Gets up and over front side with ease. Four-seam FB showed good life, getting up to 84 MPH while sitting in the 81-82 range. 2S showed some arm side run and sink. CB was in the 65-66 MPH range with some late bite and 2-8 shape. Change up faded to his arm side at 72-73 MPH. Three pitch guy who is fairly new to the mound. Has the tools and skill set, plus a fresh arm, that could allow for success at the next level.
