Pop-Time: 2.08-2.14
Large body frame, Long arm action, Average arm strength, 3/4 arm slot, Open stance, High hands finish, Smooth load and take away, Average path to the ball and contact. Potential for power
Preseason - West (February 19, 2018)
6-foot-5, 215-pounds backstop from the WNY area. At the plate narrow stance from an open approach. On the pitch loads back, dives his upper half over the inside of the plate, would like to see him a little more upright, hands stay inside the ball with a level barrel through contact, 87 mph exit velocity and we expect to see that number keep climbing. Defensively, arm-strength is up 3-mph from 75 to now 78 mph showing continued growth. Big frame, slightly narrow for his size, receives with soft hands, quick footwork to a high 3/4 slot release. Pop times are consistent in the low- 2.0's.
NY Games (June 25-27, 2017)
Athletic 6-foot-5, 215-pound catcher who is just learning the potential of his body, ran a 7.93/60. Defensively - stays low through the receiving process, above average glove, smooth, quick transfer with an arm velocity of 75 MPH and a POP time range of 2.03-2.07, has plenty more in the tank, exciting prospect to watch in the coming years.

May 2017

At 6-foot-5, Fitzsimmons has a rugged build and is just learning how to maximize the output of his body. Shows a POP time hovering around 2.1 with an accurate arm, solid glove behind the plate with above average blocking skills. Developing at the plate into a hitter who uses the middle third of the field, loads heavy, learning how to replicate swing.

Preseason All-State (February 20, 2017)

Fitzsimmons, a 2019 right-handed hitting catcher currently ranked as the 5th best catcher for the class of 2019, stands at an impressive 6-foot-5 and weighs a solid 215 pounds, ran a 7.79 60.  Offensively- Starts with a slightly open balanced lower half with the hands above and in front of the back shoulder while the barrel of the bat is slightly greater than 45-degrees. Gets into the launch phase of the swing elevating the lead foot, with a moderate stride forward, while the hands drop slightly below the shoulder and loading even with the back shoulder. Displayed an ability to keep the hands compact to the ball helping the barrel get to the ball quickly. Also showed a good ability to keep the barrel in the hitting zone for an extended period of time as well as finishing thru the ball with one hand. Drove the ball with plus power from the pull side gap to the opposite field gap during batting practice. Recorded an exit velocity of 83 MPH, an increase (+1 MPH), from September.  Defensively-  Works from an athletic and balanced square lower half. Glove is relaxed and quiet while the ball approaches the hitting zone, enabling good presentation of pitches to the lower third of the zone as well as to the corners. Throws to second base showed good accuracy but could improve on velocity as well as carry if the transfer could be sequenced ahead of the footwork. The throwing hand was behind the back, causing a bit of a delay with the transfer. Recorded and arm velocity of 76 MPH on the day (+5 MPH from September) and a best pop time of 2.02, also a personal best (+.04 from September). Good looking prospect behind the plate, with some mechanical adjustments could be an impact player both behind and at the plate.

 NY All-Star Games (September 17, 2016)
6-foot-5 200 pound catcher who ran a 7.62 60. Offensively- Even and balanced stance with a short stride and controlled take back; stays behind the ball, compact into the zone. Level swing plane with a one-handed finish. Line drive, pull side results with occasional lift. Exit velocity improved to 82 MPH. Defensively- Arm strength of 71 MPH, Fitzsimmons handles his height well behind the plate; exchanges feet gaining positive ground. Gap between catch and receive causes  for slight delay. Arm action is short and from an over the top slot; accurate and on-line with a peak pop time of 2.06. As taller player, may need to also consider 1B as an secondary option.
Futures Games (July 7-9, 2015)
Has a lean, but tall athletic body build. Defensively-  Mitch is a catcher who displayed good skills receiving the ball, had a clean transfer, and displayed an accurate arm.  Offensively- At the plate setup is open stance, short stride, with a back load.  His hands are very compact and strong, swinging with mid-section finish through the ball, with a high finish and good extension.
