Battle at the Border (October 18, 2015)
Martin may have been the event's best hitter in terms of performance. Offensively- He went 3-for-5 with a no-doubter homerun, 3 RBIs, 2 runs, and a walk. What may have been most impressive performance-wise was that he drove a line drive to LF in the at-bat after the homerun. He has a smooth stroke and above average feel for the barrel. His plate presence is excellent and his feel for the strike zone is well advanced for a 2017 graduate. He had an 87 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- His jumps in CF are some of the best I've seen in his class. He really put it on display when he tracked down a ball deep into the LCF gap for a back hand grab.
Top Prospect Games (July 15, 2015)
Martin is a 5-foot-10, 185 pound outfielder from Bergen Catholic. Offensively- Martin ran just a 7.26 in the 60-yard dash but he plays the game quicker than the testing would indicate. He hits left-handed and has an athletic base and high back elbow. He has great presence in the box and hits with confidence. He has a short stride and smooth load and repeats the same hitting position well. He has a classic smooth stroke that is often associated with a LHH and has plus bat speed. He finishes with balance and has a pull side approach. He showed pop and the ability to lay off some good off-speed pitches. Defensively- Martin moves well in the outfield and has very solid instincts. His jumps are very good as well. He has a strong arm with good carry on his throws at 85 miles-per-hour.
