New Jersey Games (July 23, 2016)
Carnevale is 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Can play anywhere in the infield. Ran a 7.03 60. Primary position is SS, but played exceptionally well at 3B during the games. Looks comfortable at all spots. Offensively, sits in a low crouch. Bat rests on shoulder and rises as he loads his hands. Load is smooth, weight transfer looks fluid and athletic. Small stride. Crouch helps him get hips through the zone, is athletic enough to stay balanced, even though stance ends up being wide after finish.
Defensively -
attacks the baseball and is fluid and athletic. Agile, can move laterally very well. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot. One of the top infield velocities at the whole event at 84.
10/18/15 -- The 5-foot-10, 155 pound shortstop looked much more aggressive in the batter's box as he went 1-for-4 with a single, walk, and two runs scored. He has begun to control his swing mechanics and has a better feel for contact. He has gradually increased his aggressiveness and it should play nicely into his favor as he fills out. He displayed a solid glove and arm strength but did look hesitant on a couple routine ground balls. He's best when he plays instinctively rather than with a calculated approach. He needs to rely less on his arm strength and get rid of the ball quicker as game speed increases.
9/26/15-- Carnevale showed excellent athleticism throughout the day as short, particularly on a barehand bid deep into the 5/6 hole. He also put together some solid at-bats; hard line out to center and a hard 6-3 where he showed 4.42 time down to first.
9/20/15 -- Carnevale continues to show improvement. He cut down on his sixty time from July (7.33 to 7.21). His swing plane looked much more natural and aggressive resulting in increased bat speed. Defensively, Carnevale showed potentially plus arm strength at 85 miles-per-hour across the diamond. He has good glove skills and body control. Foot work could be cleaned up some to and through his throws to take him to the next level.
7/16/15 – Carnevale is a 5-foot-10, wiry strong athlete from Lyndhurst High School. He was one of the more impressive defenders at the event, especially considering his age. He displayed excellent hands at shortstop, showing the ability to pick it and get rid of it quickly. He had smooth footwork and worked through his throw well. He showcased a 78 MPH arm across the diamond and the ball had good carry. There is more in the tank in terms of arm strength as he begins to mature. Offensively, Carnevale is just an okay runner at this point but his foot speed would suggest that he increases his 60-yard dash time (7.33). He hits from an open stance and have a small rock back in weight for a load. He is rhythmic in the box and stays balanced enough to not get caught on his front foot. He shows a level swing plane and his bat speed will improve. He finishes balanced and repeats his swing mechanics well.
