10/18/15 -- O'Mara had an up-and-down day as he swung well, pitched well, and had a poor performance in the outfield. He went 0-for-3 at the plate with two hard line outs and two walks which should be seen as a positive. He has some juice in the bat and showed that he could hit hard line drives to all fields. Defensively, he gets a good jump but falls victim to lack of repetition which may been the reason for poor reads. For me, he projects as a 1B or DH defensively.

His real upside is on the mound where he is a definite high level talent. He has a smooth arm stroke and a quick arm action once he reaches the top of his arm swing. He is repeatable and explosive on the mound with good linear movements. His fastball ranged 81-83 miles-per-hour and his slider was much sharper than in previous outings at 70-71 MPH. He pitched a low effort, scoreless inning to close out the victory against New England.

7/16/15 – Mason O’Mara was a volatile member of the CBA squad that won several championships this spring. The 6-foot-3, 195 pound two-way prospect proved to be a high level player at the event. O’Mara started the event running a 6.88 60-yard dash and moved well in the outfield. He continued to display his athleticism in the batter’s box. He hit with a tall stance and minimal stride. He had a small load of his hands and repeated a solid hitting position. He had some strength in his slightly uphill swing, indicated when he barreled up the baseball.

O’Mara’s upside is his ability to use his above average athleticism on the mound. O’Mara pitched exclusively out of the stretch position and had excellent directional force towards the dish. He pitched from a ¾ arm slot and a long, clean arm action. His fastball velocity was 81-85 and he did touch 86 twice in his simulated inning. He had an excellent feel for commanding fastball down throughout the outing, which made his three-pitch mix much more effective.  His slider showed a ton of potential when thrown at 72-73 and at times, showed that it could be a true out pitch when he gets through it with arm speed. He does get behind the slider at times, throwing it with one-plane break at 69-71 MPH. The consistency on this pitch will get better as he gets more time on the mound. His changeup was superb throughout the outing. He throws his changeup 70-71 miles-per-hour and it has late fade and could be a swing-and-miss pitch. O’Mara’s athleticism, history of winning, and mental makeup will make him a high level prospect.
