Uphill swing with balance in finish and follow through. Line drive hitter with gap to gap potential as he continues to get stronger and fill out frame. Defensively – Throws to 2B topped at 70 MPH and recorded pop times between 2.07–2.16 both in the skills event and during gameplay. 7/25/2017
6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Second time we have seen Lane in the last year, and the improvement is obvious. Threw 71 mph from behind the dish, as the transfer footwork needs to continue to improve. A long toss program is needed as the arm works simple and short, just needs added strength. The receiving is solid and securing the catch is done well. Pop time of 2.06. The tee exit velocity of 86 mph. Sets up with even feet, pick up and put down of the front foot as the ball approaches. The swing is long to contact, uses a 1-handed finish after contact. Barrelled up the baseball in the game Ran a 4.66 down the line on his dig to first base and he played the game hard.
Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Painter has an athletic frame at 6-foo-2 185-pounds. One of the top performers of the event. Ran a 7.07 60 yard dash. Offensively- starts in a balanced stance and a slight crouch with hands level with his back shoulder. As pitch comes in, he uses a small leg lift and stride and a small hand load. Shows some power potential. Hips clear through the zone, level bat path. Exit Velocity was 90 mph. Defensively- showed one of the best catch and throw techniques of the event. Quick feet and clean exchange. Throws had some carry toward 2B. Registered pop times between 1.88-1.97. Threw 72 mph down to 2B.
8/21/16
Right-handed hitting catcher that showed good skills at the event, pop time of 2.0. The receiving is soft and the frame is loose, as he moves well back there. The throwing path is a bit long but there is arm strength there. Threw 69 mph from behind the dish. Physical strength in the frame will help his development. Ran a 4.9 down the line on his dig to first base. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 79 mph to it. The swing starts out with a wide base and high back elbow start, hands pushed back. The path is long to the ball as he needs better direction to short the path and aid better contact. The bottom half is under control during the swing. Needs to allow himself to finish his swing and get all the way through the ball after contact.
