9.23.18 Howard JC recruit. Hayward possesses a strong and athletic frame at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 6.90 seconds, one of the tops at the event. Recorded an exit velo of 80 MPH. Starts tall at the plate with his feet even. Hands begin above shoulder height, near his body, and stay locked in position during his load. Minimal stride. Short, compact swing. Keeps his hands inside the baseball. Took defensive reps in the outfield recording a top velo of 78 MPH on his throws. Fields the ball under control outside of his right foot. Made on target throws from a 3/4 arm slot.
Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017) Hayward has a long, lanky stature at 6-feet 165-pounds. Ran the 60 in 6.93. Offensively- starts in a wide, balanced stance with hands level with back shoulder. Quiet approach at the plate, minimal movements in load. Small foot stride and small load. Line drive type hitter, balanced finish and level bat head through the zone. Exit Velocity topped at 83 mph. Defensively- Shows some athleticism in attacking ground balls in the outfield. Fields the ball out in front of body, finishes throws going toward the glove side. Throws topped at 71 with some loft underneath the ball.
9/20/15 -- Hayward is 5-11, 161 pounds and is thin with shoulders that are beginning to broaden out. Well above average athleticism; already sub-7.0 in the 60-yard dash. He hits from the left-side with a narrow, relaxed stance. Does not have much pop yet but does have the ability to control the barrel. He has some of the best pitch recognition and concept of the strike zone I've seen from a player this young. I tend to think he needs to flatten out his swing some but only because he lacks present strength. He moves extremely well around the outfield and has range to both his left and right. He has a fluid arm action and engages his lower half well. He projects for solid arm strength.
