Preseason All-State Showcase (February 11th, 2017)
Conte has a strong, athletic build at 5-foot-10 175-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.75. Exit Velocity topped at 84. Offensively- starts with a balance stance with weight on back side and hands level with back shoulder. Uses a toe tap and weight transfer to initiate swing. Hands load down and back. Creates some power with his swing and some lift on finish. Hips rotate fluidly through the zone. Defensively- Recorded pop times between 2.07-2.15. Throws topped at 72 mph to 2B. Quick feet and short, slingshot-like arm action.
Last Chance Open I.D. Showcase (November 5th, 2016)
Conte has a strong, stockier build at 5-foot-10 180-pounds. Recorded pop time of 2.37 and threw 68 mph down to second base. Offensively- starts with a slightly opened stance in a crouch with weight on front leg. As pitch comes in, weight shifts to back leg and uses a small front foot stride to start swing. Bat is just above shoulder prepitch, parallel with the ground. As pitch comes in, hands load back, left arm/elbow locks out in load causing him to get long in swing occasionally. Makes up length in swing with explosive hips. Defensively- has some feel for receiving and blocking. able to move laterally to get in front of dirt balls to either side. Needs to work on funneling toward home plate more. Best pop time was 2.37 - can shave off some time with cleaning up footwork and exchange. Slight hitch when he comes out of the shoot from crouch to exchange and then to throw. Pop times will improve if he can eliminate hitch and make throws in one explosive movement.
Underclass Games (September 18, 2016)
Conte is a 5-foot-9 170-pound catcher. Offensively- starts stance slightly opened in a crouch with his weight on his back foot. Bat rested on back shoulder. Starts swing with a leg kick and hand load that comes down and back. Arm bar in swing, finishes with some lift. Showcased well during BP for one of the younger prospects on the field. Defensively- quiet body/frame, ideal for getting called strikes in games. Needs to get more explosive coming out of crouch and into throws. Framework is there. Throws had some loft to them, best pop time recorded with 2.30.
