5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher and third baseman. Defensively, threw 72 mph from behind the dish. The transfer and footwork need to be shortened a bit more for him to make a catch and throw jump. Pop time of 2.01. At shortstop, showed an average glove, the footwork to and through the ball need to improve. Threw 78 mph across the diamond in the defensive portion of the workout. At the plate, tee exit velocity of 82 mph. Hits out of a wide setup and even hands. The path to the ball is long, initiating the swing more direct at its start will help clean that up. Needless to say, he is improving each time we see him.
Tee Exit Velocity- 82 mph
Catching Velocity- 72 mph
Pop Time- 2.01
INF Velocity- 78 mph
Medium built, right-handed hitting catcher who has been to a couple PBR events now. Threw 71 mph from behind the dish and featured a pop time of 2.06. The receiving still needs to improve and soften up but he does have a skill set to catch. Ran a 4.62 on the dig to first base, with some effort. The bat is coming along, tee exit velocity of 81 mph. Hits out of a wide base setup, so his bottom half is under control. The path is long to the ball, needs to shorten the path down to be a more efficient hitter. Pitched as well, fastball touched 76 mph and he threw a spin pitch at 65 mph. The delivery has a little drop and drive to it, the slot being ¾ and very short on the backside. Similar to most catchers who try to pitch as well. Small coil at the top of the lift and an improvement on tracking the shoulders to foot strike is needed.
3/12/16
Right-handed hitting catcher who displays good tools to play the position. Threw 70 mph from behind the dish and had a pop time of 2.2. The transfer is athletic, and the arm works. Needs to gain ground through the catch and throw process. He loses ground, could get fixed up with proper footwork. At the plate, setup is wide and the hand setup is low. The bat has hand speed to it, but he goes out and around to get to contact. Has lean on the backside during the swing and needs to control his feet slightly better. Had a tee exit velocity of 80 mph.
12/13/15
Right-handed hitting catcher who worked extremely hard at the event. Has good actions and a short quick throwing slot. The feet work behind the plate and the tools are there to be a catcher. His throwing will be plenty as he works to lower his pop time. The receiving needs to come on a little but with reps he shows soft hands and the ability to secure the catch. Had a pop time of 2.19 and threw 68 mph from behind the dish. Ran a 7.7 60-yard dash. At the plate, showed a tee exit velocity of 72 mph. The set up is wide with his feet and he uses a no stride approach which I like. The bat is long and flat to the ball. He does need to finish his swing and get all the way through the ball.
