6/16/15- MN Top Prospect
5-foot-9, 175-pound switch-hitting middle infielder. Athletic player who ran a 6.94 60 at the event. Shows plus range in field with ability to get to a lot of balls other players can’t. Has quickness to game and glove is solid in the middle infield. Has accuracy with above average arm strength- 85 mph. Has rhythm in swing from both sides and flashes ability to drive ball to gaps. 87 mph exit velocity off tee.
2/28/15- MN Preseason All-State
5-foot-10, 175-pound shortstop with raw athleticism and fast twitch actions. Ran a 6.72 60. Switch-hitter who shows ability to hit from both sides of plate. Has strength in swing from both sides with exit velocity of 90 mph. Still shaking off some rust during the winter. Performed well at PBR Futures Games last summer. Gap to gap approach right-handed/ middle-pull left-handed. Shows quick feet and ability to move laterally. Glove works and arm is accurate with carry. High Follow Infielder in 2016 class.
July- 2014
Playing on Select Team, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound switch-hitting middle infielder impressed with his all-around game and athleticism. On the workout day, Collins ran a 6.77 60, was clocked at 84 mph from shortstop, recorded a 90 mph exit velocity while showing a balanced, level swing from both sides of the plate. In game play, Collins showed off his top-level hands at multiple infield positions, and smoked a triple to right field in the first game.
4/12/19: Switch-hitting middle infielder and leadoff hitter for the Bluejays, Collins top tools are his plus speed and near average arm. Showed fair hands on ground balls with a very quick DP pivot. As a left-handed hitter he does not take the type of swing conducive to his toolset/profile. Has a huge hole away, especially against offspeed pitches. Sets up in a wide, spread stance. Takes a big uppercut swing around the ball with above average bat speed. The ball jumped off his bat in BP, but due to the side/top spin created from the swing path, the carry was minimal even with the wind blowing out 20+ mph. Right-handed, the swing was better than the left with a shorter path and loose bat head. But, similar to the left, he does pull off the ball. Should concentrate more on driving his top hand through the ball instead of around it and in/out of the strike zone. Overall, Collins has an intriguing set of tools with plus speed and defensive versatility. (Seifert)
8/20/18: Five-foot-ten, 185 pound athletically built infielder with a strong frame. Defensively shows quick-twitch actions with plenty of arm strength. Stay balanced while moving laterally. Compact throwing motion. Profiles best for second base. Switch hitter. Smooth, low effort hitting actions from the left side. Average bat speed with lift in swing. Very similar look on the right side but shows more of a line drive approach and not as much pull-side power. Hard-nosed player with mature approach to the game. (D Jurik)
