Shined brightest of all, shutting out Maryland on five hits and four walks over eight innings while striking out 10. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound righthander came out of the chute throwing smoke, working at 94-96 mph out of the windup for the first two innings, and he held 91-93 velocity throughout his eight-inning, 120-pitch outing. Benschoter has some funk in his three-quarters delivery and hides the ball well, and he did a good job mixing four pitches, but his calling card was a 79-84 mph slider with big lateral tilt, serving as his primary out pitch. He mixed in a 72-74 curveball to steal a strike early in counts and missed some bats with his 81-82 changeup as well. A fifth-year senior, Benschoter pitched sparingly over his first three seasons, then moved into a starting role in the shortened 2020 season, logging 30 strikeouts in 18.1 innings, though he finished with a 6.87 ERA. He seems ready to put it all together as a fifth-year veteran this spring. (Aaron Fitt)

6-foot-2, 175 pound athletic prospect. High ¾ quick arm action who gets downhill well. Fastball sits 87-89 mph. 12/6 curveball with good depth at 70-71 mph. Has made an impact on the recruiting seen since early June and has a high ceiling who will garner a lot of interest.
6/17/2014 6-foot-2, 175 pound long and lanky athletic build. Arm speed was intriguing on the mound with his fastball at 88-89 mph. Gets downhill well with great command of his fastball and change-up. Change-up has good sink at 74 mph. Curve-ball is 68-72 mph, will need to develop better command to add as a third pitch. At shortstop, he showed good range and hands. Needs to get hands out in-front more to get lower on ground balls. Threw 82 mph across the infield. Had good strength and pop in his bat from the left side. Bat speed was 87 mph with using a load, will gain more bat speed with better weight transfer. Ran a 4.35 home to 1st.
