5-foot-11, 185-pound LHH is put together well and has established himself as one of the top young left-handed hitters in the state. He hits from a wide base and uses all fields well with a smooth swing and good approach as evidenced by his two-run double to left field in game action. Behind the plate, Stevenson shows well above average arm strength at 78 mph from the crouch. Pop times showed a slight improvement and should continue to get better. Does a solid job receiving and blocking behind the plate.
As a pitcher, showed a big jump in velocity from previous event. Uses shorter arm action and works through a ¾ slot, arm is loose and quick, throws a heavy fastball from an up tempo delivery with late arm-side run that he likes to run in on the hands of right handed hitters, did not show a breaking ball but throws an effective changeup with good velocity difference that mimics the fastball action, allowed two hits and produced two ground ball outs in his one inning of work. Stevenson is definitely a 2019 arm to watch for additional velocity gains and development.
On the mound, arm action is loose and works through a high-3/4 arm slot, arm is quick with good velocity for age, fastball sat 76-79 mph touching 80 with some arm-side run, shows good feel for 60-64 mph curveball with gradual 11/5 action, showed a very solid 69 mph changeup with late fade that is throw with good arm action, allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two (one looking on curveball) in his two innings of work.
