8/10/13 - As he did at the Top Prospect Games in June, the 5-foot-11, 170-pound McHugh stole the show again from an arm strength standpoint. In June he ripped off throws of 89 mph across the infield. This time he let it fly at 92. He has athletic feet, soft hands, plays through the ball well, and not only does he have a cannon for an arm, it is accurate as well. At the plate, the right-handed McHugh hits from a slightly open and athletic stance with a short stride, has an aggressive approach, and while he showed good bat speed with an 89 mph tee exit velocity, he went 0-for-4 in game play, though he did make hard contact a few times. He registered a 4.34 home to first time. On the mound, uses long arm action through a ¾ arm slot, fastball shows big arm-side run at 84-86 mph and touched 87, slider is a swing and miss pitch which he shows good command of at 74-77 mph with late bite, changeup is thrown with good arm action at 73-74 mph with significant run and sink. There is no doubt McHugh is one of the top uncommitted arms in Kentucky’s 2014 class.
6/11/13 - 5-foot-11, 165-pound prospect stole the show from an arm strength standpoint. In the infield, showed athletic actions, soft hands, fluid footwork, quick exchange and an event best 89 mph arm strength across the infield, also shows the ability to play outfield, plays through the ball, event best 91 mph arm from the outfield . At the plate, hits from slightly open setup, hands drop some in load, hands trigger from chest level, flat bat path, good lower half torque in swing creates bat speed, ran 6.74 60 yard dash, 88 mph tee exit velocity, athletic prospect with very good speed and big arm strength. On the mound, uses long arm action through a ¾ to high ¾ arm slot, quick arm, fastball shows very good arm side run at 84-86 mph, showed good command of 73-76 mph slider with good bite, definite two-way prospect.
