11/2/14 - Mars is physical and athletic 6-foot-2, 185-pound first-baseman/outfielder. During batting practice he worked from a closed stance and short stride. He starts with a slight arm bar but has loose hands and explosive bat speed. He has good balance throughout his swing and works mostly gap-to-gap. His exit velocity was clocked at a camp-best 91 mph. In the outfield he showed quick, clean arm action delivering a number of accurate throws with a top velocity of 81 mph. At first base he showed soft hands and fluid footwork. Overall he’s a good athlete with present strength and bat speed. He ran a 7.12 60-yard dash.
10/19/13 - The right-hand hitting 1B/OF has a strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 185-pounds. At the plate he has a wide stance and short stride. He has loose hands, good bat speed and extension. His exit velocity was clocked at 91, the 2nd highest in camp. Mars stood out in game 1 – collecting a walk in his first at bat, then crushed a ball to centerfield for an out in his second followed up by lacing a triple in his final at bat. During the defensive evaluations he moved well and made several accurate throws in both the OF and at 1B. His best throw velocity-wise was 81 mph. He ran a 4.68 home to 1B. Look for Mars to put up big offensive numbers this spring.
