4/4/14 - The most physically impressive player on the field today was Topeka’s Dante Brooks. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore left fielder is built like a big leaguer already. As is the case with several of Topeka’s baseball players he also plays football and earned All-City honors this past fall. Brooks bats right and throws left and on a day when Manhattan’s pitchers were in total control, pumping strikes and commanding their breaking ball, he did hit a laser to center field for a hard out demonstrating strength and bat speed. We are supposed to report on what we actually see, but I would imagine if he connects on a pitch it’s going to travel a long, long way. He also ran a 4.41 home-to-first base from the right side.
