2/21/16 - Carlson is a 6-foot 166-pound left-handed hitting third baseman and pitcher in Kansas’ 2017 class from Balwin HS.  He ran a 4.03 home to first and has an exit velo of 77 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, in-line stride, hands drop a bit in load, contact to middle/pull side of cage during batting practice.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, plays through the ball, quick catch and throw. On the mound showed simple body movements and short arm action from a three-quarters slot. Tempo in his delivery varied and was somewhat out of sync. Fastball 73-79 mph, some arm-side run. Breaking ball with late bite, 66-68 mph. Change-up with run and sink, 73-75 mph. Should become more consistent with improved body control and timing.
