2/22/14: 6-foot-1, 220 pound junior has improved his game as well as his body type. Behind the plate was 1.94-2.00 with his pop times at the event. Setup needs to improve but showcases soft hands with a quick release. From the crouch was 77 mph. Offensively uses a simple approach. Stride is short with a smooth load. Hands are quick. Bat gets through the zone with some whip. Effortless power. Potential high level bat.
6/24/13: Continues to improve both behind the plate and as a hitter. Projectable power. Ball flys off the bat. Hands are quick and gets to extension constantly.
3/2/13: Simmerman has an advanced tool set at the plate. Has a good load and a wide stance. Generates plenty of pop with fast hands. Gets the bat head through to extension and the ball jumps off his bat. In the field, he showed a strong accurate arm. Footwork around the bag was solid. Very capable first baseman.
2/23/13: 6-foot, 240 pound sophomore showcases some arm strength at 78 mph. Moves well around the bag and shows an above average glove. At the plate starts with a wide base in his balanced setup. Has a short stride with good use of his lower half. Displays a quick bat and gets to extension. Has projectable power to the left side. Tons of pop.
