4.11.15 - Committed to Western Michigan, currently ranked No. 122 in Illinois’ 2015 class. Athletic 6-foot-5, 195-pound frame with long limbs and plenty of room for additional physical development. Arm works free and easily, high-3/4 slot. Works exclusively out of stretch. Fastball sat 84-86 in the first inning, and climbed to 85-87 in second, touching 88 once, with slight run. Curveball ranged between 72-74 with erratic action. Recorded six strikeouts after five innings, including three punchouts against Louisville-bound OF Chris Botsoe. Hit the first batter of the game, and walked another in the first, but settled down and didn’t allow another free pass through five innings. Overall, highly projectable prospect, and should continue to develop as he fills into his frame.

10.12.14 - Extra-large frame, 6-foot-5, 195-pound right-handed pitcher, long and athletic, good projectability. Tall and fall delivery, regular effort, smooth rhythm, stays closed. Arm action is quick, high ¾ arm slot, loose arm. Fastball showed running action, sat 84-85 mph, controlled the zone well. Curveball has steep shape, flashed 12/6 action, more consistently 11/5 shape, flashed bite, 70-73 mph, fastball arm speed. Throws a splitter at 73-75 mph, occasional tumble action. Laio has a high ceiling with his long frame and loose athletic arm action, should be a strong follow his senior year.
