Elder has been striking out opponents at a remarkable rate since he stepped onto the small Elgin school’s campus. In three varsity seasons, Elder has racked up 366 strikeouts in 233.2 innings. As a sophomore, he and teammate Ryan Perez led Westminster to the Class 1A state championship after Elder went 12-4 with an amazing 149 strikeouts in 88 innings. Last spring, Elder was just as dominant, finishing with 132 punchouts in 69.2 innings. The right-handed ended with a 1.81 ERA and a 0.88 WHIP. So why is Elder so effective? Well, for starters, he comes from two different arm angles, delivering consistent 87-90 mph fastballs that have climbed up to 93. His best pitch, however, very well may be his slider, which he throws in the 81-83 mph range. Helped lead team to Class 1A championship by going 12-4 with an astounding 149 strikeouts in 88 innings.
