6.13.13 - Top-level 2015 prospect. Physical 6-foot-1, 220-pound durable frame with developed lower half. High-pitchability left-hander with true three-pitch command. Arm works free and easily from high-3/4 slot; has good rhythm and tempo throughout delivery, repeats well and throws everything will same arm action. Fastball sat at 83, topping at 84, and have seen up to 86. Commands fastball with arm-side run and some sink. Changeup looks to be a plus pitch: 74-76 mph with arm-side sink down in the zone. Also commands 70-73 slider. Positionally, Newberg hits from the right side. Has a simple approach, using a minimal load and no stride, yet the ball jumps off his bat with backspin carry and loft. Had an 88 mph exit velocity, and shows soft hands around first base. In all, Newberg should be one of the most coveted prospects in Illinois’ 2015 class.

5/18/13 - Currently ranked No. 13 in Illinois’ 2015 class; 53 overall. Wide-shouldered 6-foot-1, 220-pound left-hander. Did not pitch in doubleheader against St. Viator (unfortunately). Indoors have seen his fastball in 83-85 range with arm-side life. Also shows right-handed power potential at plate.

10/28/12 - Newberg looks to be one of the premier two-way players in his class. At 6-foot-1, 220 pounds, Newberg is a physical athlete. On the mound is where Newberg projects best. 10/28/12 - His big frame showed advanced balance throughout his delivery, creating an effortless feel to his 81-83 mph fastball. Newberg’s arm works cleanly from a high ¾ arm slot, demonstrating loose action. His fastball showed command and arm side run, while he demonstrated a curveball and a slider that showed some feel. His curveball worked on an 11/5 plane thrown with fastball arm speed showing control of the pitch. His changeup was clocked at 72-73 and consistently down in the zone. Positionally, he showed solid footwork around the bag, coupled with soft hands and an above average first baseman’s arm. Offensively, Newberg has a strong presence in the box. His stance is balanced and his load is smooth. While using a no stride approach, he still shows the ability to generate advanced power with bat speed and extension through the zone. Newberg showcased himself as a gap to gap style hitter with power.
