4.27.15 - 6-foot, 185-pound senior righthander impressed with three pitch mix and strike throwing ability. Did not walk a batter in complete game victory, striking out three. Works from a long, loose, high arm slot, toe up at balance point, lands in line with home plate, slightly closed on front foot at foot strike. Great rhythm to delivery, hands work up and down with leg kick for rhythm, repeats delivery, getting out front with all three pitches. Fastball sat 84-86 mph early on, settled into the 82-84 mph range, holding velocity into the seventh. Late arm side run, in on the hands of righthanded hitters on fastball. Slider is late breaking, more lateral 10/4 shape, thrown anywhere from 72-77 mph. Higher end velocity has more cutter look to it, contact/off the barrel pitch. Sinking changeup thrown aggressively in the 73-75 mph range. Potential to be an out pitch, specifically against left-handed hitters. Villasenor is one of the more unheralded aces in the Catholic League, and is 5-0 already on the season, with five walks in 26 innings pitched, good for a 1.077 ERA and a .846 WHIP. A top notch student, he’ll attend the University of Chicago next fall.
