Offensively hits from a closed stance, uses minimal load and no stride. Bat speed is present, quick hands, short path. Lower half is active, athletic swing, advanced approach, 88 mph exit velocity.
7.25.12 Mayer is a strong 5-foot-10, 187-pound catcher who impressed in all facets of the game. Offensively, Mayer showcased an aggressive, repeatable line drive swing with excellent balance through contact. He remains quiet through contact, with little excess movement. He uses his strong lower half and quick hands to barrel the baseball with gap-to-gap power. Defensively, he displayed soft hands and solid blocking skills behind the plate. Mayer exhibited an accurate arm that was clocked at 76 mph from the crouch with a best pop time of 1.95. Additionally, Mayer ran a 7.35 60. In all, Mayer looks to be one of the more polished catchers in the Class of 2014.
