7/14/15
6-foot-3, 250-pound right-handed hitter with a tee exit velocity of 99. He hits from a wide base, his elbow is high, the barrel was flat to the ball and he has really good hands. He ambushed balls to both gaps. His footwork around the bag was good, he had an arm strength was 80 across the diamond, he has soft hands and will be an above average first baseman. He has pro power, something you don't teach. If he can get his body into a little better shape, the sky's the limit.
7/30/19: Bowens blew him away, cranking a whopping 24 more home runs in his allotted four minutes, with a long of 454 feet. Bowens said it was just his second-ever appearance in a home run derby — and it went a whole lot better than the first one. Winning a home run derby doesn’t always correlate to prospect status, of course — but multiple scouts walked away very impressed with Bowens’ big, athletic frame (one scout called it “a 70 body”) and fluid swing. With a slightly open stance, a balanced setup with medium hand height and a moderate leg lift, Bowens has excellent rhythm. His strong thighs, forearms and lightning-quick hands give him real bat speed and easy power. Bowens already showed that he had feel for hitting, when he batted .376/.459/.640 to help lead Central Connecticut to regionals for the second time in three years this spring. That production came in 32 games, as Bowens missed the first half of the season while recovering from the ACL injury that cost him all but six games of the 2018 campaign. It took a while for his power to return once he returned to action, and he finished the spring with five homers in 125 at-bats. Now, he’s showing more power than ever before. He is tied for the NECBL lead with 14 home runs this summer, along with a league-best 47 RBIs and a solid .320 batting average. He also moves around well at first base, where he has a shot to be a quality defender as he moves through pro ball. Like all first basemen, Bowens will have to hit a ton to become a big leaguer, but he’s got a chance to do just that. Now that he’s fully recovered from his ACL injury, Bowens could wind up as one of the top college bats in the Northeast for the 2020 draft. (Fitt)
