A 6-foot-5, 215-pound right-hander showed a nasty arsenal of a lively 4-seam FB up to 95 and a lower-spin sinking 2-seamer in the 89-92 range. He also flashed a 79-80 hammer curve and a mid-80s put away changeup. The command of his arsenal will need some polish as he worked many deep counts, but his stuff is undeniable. Wendell has a chance to throw two consistent out pitches in his curve and changeup to go along with fastball velocity into the mid-90s. He projects to be one of the better arms in what looks to be a deep crop of pitching in the BIG this spring.
2022 MLB Draft League: Wendell operates with a four-pitch mix led by a low-90s fastball and a high-spin (T3000+), swing-and-miss slider (61% Whiff%), and he also shows aptitude for turning over a quality changeup.
6-foot-5, 180 pounds. Bats and throws right. Has raw power at the plate. Has tall narrow slight open stance at the plate. Short stride with uphill swing path. Good extension through the zone and good hip rotation. Very lanky now and very projectable. Hit .383 for the Jaguars in 2017 and led the team in doubles (8) and RBI's (25) while adding 2 homeruns. Has big power potential with added strength.
