Moniak stands at a projectable 6-foot-2, 170 pounds. He was an offensive terror throughout the Area Code Games, going 7-for-19 with eighth runs scored and four stolen bases in five tries. He struck out just twice and turned in one of the best catches I’ve ever seen in person, going straight back in center field to catch a long fly ball with his back to the infield—Willie Mays style. Moniak stands tall at the plate, taking a medium stride and maintaining balance through contact. He has quick hands that generate good bat speed and loud contact now. As he gains strength with physical maturity, the ball will jump even more. He runs well and routinely got down the line in about 4.2 seconds.
8/9/15 - Continued to show off his ability to handle the bat from the left side, going 3-for-4 with three doubles—two of which were dumped down the left-field line—and three runs scored. His one out was a flyout that came off the bat at 93.7 mph. He has put a charge into a few balls this week that were swallowed by Blair Field and some wind blowing in, but when he matures physically and adds strength, he’ll be able to really drive the ball and be an offensive threat.
8/8/15 - Has put together good at-bats all week atop the Brewers’ batting order and went 1-for-4 with with a double, walk, RBI and two runs scored. He struck out once, just his second of the week. He also stole a base and the double he hit had an exit velocity of 96.1 mph and went off the right field wall.
8/4/15 - 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, showing good barrel control with a hard single up the middle and another through the hole on the left side.
A 15U alum and instinctual player, Moniak wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers. He has quick hands at the plate and consistently finds the barrel. He’s balanced and can turn on good fastballs. He’s skinny now and needs to add strength to his 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame. He went 6-for-15 (.400) with a double, triple, two RBIs and four runs scored. He’s an above average runner and stole five bases.
6/25/15 - Treat to watch. He has instincts and plays hard, but he’s not just a grinder. He has tools that project to be at least average. He went 3-for-3 today and was aggressive on the bases, swiping four bags. He took an inside-out swing to shoot a single over the shortstop for one of his hits and then hammered a triple into the right-field corner, dropping the head on an inside pitch. A UCLA recruit, he showed easy strides around the bases, running effortlessly. Unfortunately, he was tagged out at third after sliding past the bag.
6/23/15 - Skinny frame with room to add strength, but he has some quick-twitch actions to his game. He showed a good swing and bat speed in BP and made loud contact. His arm has room for improvement, which should come with added strength.
