2/24/19: Athletic-bodied outfielder and well-rounded player. Pretty simple swing, takes a minimal load and creates good bat speed. Can get jumpy in the batter's box. Spun and pulled off the ball early in the series, but made a noticeable adjustment during his third at-bat of Saturday's game. Began to extend with his top hand and drove the ball to center and right-center field in his next two at-bats. Gets good jumps and reads the ball well in the outfield. Below-average arm strength, yet catches and throws quickly, allowing the arm to play up. Average runner down the line, 4.30 from the right side. Likely Day Two selection this June. (Seifert)
8/20/18: Six-foot-two, 195 pounds. Lean, athletic frame with chance for more physical development. Moves well in the outfield with long, easy strides. Average to slightly above average runner. 4.32 down the line. Clean arm action that projects to add more strength. Currently below average arm but shows consistent accuracy. Offensively, hits with quick hands and average bat speed. Gap-to-gap approach but could tap into more power. Swing does show some lift, especially pull-side. Quality approach at the plate. Occasionally struggles with recognizing spin. Swing and misses seem to result more from guessing than lack of contact skills. Had a breakout sophomore season for UCLA slashing .350/.421.558 and continued with a .304/.347/.432 line this summer. If he continues to hit at the same rate in 2019, expect Ydens to easily receive Day Two draft consideration this June. (D Jurik)
