Unsigned Senior Spotlight: SS Brandon Wright

Brandon WrightBrandon Wright is a wiry 5-foot-11, 160-pound infielder who attends Winfield HS. His athleticism was evident during the American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional, where he hit .333 (4-12) with five runs scored, one double, and three stolen bases in three games for West Virginia state champion South Charleston Post 94.

Wright's speed is his best tool, as the right-handed hitter posted a 4.28 home-to-1B time and a 3.41 on a steal. He is aggressive and showed some instincts on the bases, going first to third on an E6 that trickled out into shallow left field.

Wright displayed instincts with the leather as well, starting a 6-5 putout on a groundball to his right and approaching a chopper so that he would be able to field it chest high. While still raw (he fields the ball off his right side and tries to be too quick with his hands at times), Wright handled fourteen chances flawlessly during the regional.

At the plate, Wright hits from an open stance with his front heel off the ground. He strides with his heel up and knee rolled in, which causes him to roll it back out, open up early, and work around the ball. He appeared to have a solid feel for the strike zone, only attacking pitches he could handle.
