The Fall College Prospect Program wrapped up an 11 college, six weekend tour through Pennsylvania and West Virginia on September 29 at Alderson Broaddus University. Today we look at the top West Virginia pitchers that showcased their abilities during the course of the fall program.
West Virginia Pitchers
Top Prospect:
1. RHP/OF Shane Ennis (Hampshire HS, Class of 2015) is spending his fall tossing footballs around a gridiron rather than throwing a baseball off a mound, but that didn't stop him from turning in a solid performance at Alderson Broaddus. The No. 1 ranked prospect in the West Virginia Class of 2014 sat 86-87 while touching 88 mph in his three innings of work. Ennis also displayed an improving 72 mph curveball with 11/5 break as well as a 76 mph changeup. Ennis struck out three and allowed three hits in his time on the mound while showing similar velocity from the summer months. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound righty is not a finished product and projects as a prospect likely to see 90 mph in the near future.
Best of the Rest:
2. SS/RHP Tristan Thompson (Chapmanville Regional HS, Class of 2015) showcased well in all facets of the game at Thiel College. Thompson topped at 79 mph out of a high 3/4 arm slot with an overhead rocker delivery. He worked a 1-2-3 inning at Thiel College and flashed a 70 mph 11/5 breaking curveball with tight rotation. The primary infielder showed the potential to be a two-way player at the right college.
3. SS/RHP Drew Lett (Doddridge County HS, Class of 2016) was one of the more interesting pitchers over the course of the fall program. He has a long frame at 6-foot-2, 160-pounds and displayed repeatable mechanics out of a high 3/4 arm slot. Lett sat 79-81 with some arm side run to his fastball. He was hesitant to utilize his 71 mph curveball and did not showcase a changeup. His loose arm action indicates additional velocity is in store and with the development of his complimentary pitches Lett will be an interesting follow in this class.
