WV Director of Scouting
With the start of the high school season is less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region. Look for our initial Elite Eight team rankings in each classification to appear later this month.
Class AAA - Region IV
Preseason Favorites
Hurricane (29-7) / Cabell Midland (18-11) / Nitro (24-9)
A potential three team battle looms in this always rugged region. Hurricane looks to defend its 2014 state title but to do so will have to contend with a Nitro team that is loaded with quality pitching and a Cabel Midland Team that seems to peek during the postseason every year.
In the Hunt
Logan (23-9) / Huntington (19-11)
Preseason Player of the Year
Zach Minnick, C/3B/RHP, Logan (Class of 2015)
Minnick gets the nod over a large group of talented players in this region. The 6-foot, 215-pound primary catcher has put up impressive numbers through his first three years of high school baseball and has shown the raw tools to be a potential draft pick as early as this year's June draft. At the recent PBR Super 60 Pro Showcase in Chicago, Minnick ran a 6.85 60-yard dash and flashed a 95 mph bat exit velocity with a wood bat. The Campbell University recruit has showcased a top pop time of 1.79 at previous PBR events and starred as a member of the Team Pennsylvania roster at the 2013 PBR Future Games at Indiana University.
