Region Preview: Class A - Region IV

With the start of the high school season less than a month away we will be previewing each region in each classification statewide. In addition to a look at the top teams we will also highlight some of the top prospects in each region.

                 Class A - Region IV

Preseason Favorites

Charleston Catholic (34-11) / Parkersburg Catholic (20-13)

Charleston Catholic graduated nine seniors from last year's state title roster, but brings back SS/RHP Connor Golden who was 9-1 on the mound in 2013. Parkersburg Catholic appears to be the odds on favorite to supplant the defending champions with 10 members of last year's varsity roster returning. Wahama is also likely to be in the hunt with several front line pitchers returning along with some offensive fire power.

Connor GoldenPreseason Player of the Year

Connor Golden, SS/RHP, Charleston Catholic HS (Class of 2014)

Golden is a 5-foot-10, 175-pound SS/2B from Charleston Catholic HS. He has been an All-State selection three straight years. Golden hit .382 with 39 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 2013 while going 9-1 on the mound. The unsigned senior sits 83-85 on the mound and has a strong 83 mph arm across the diamond.
