Greenbrier East 6, Woodrow Wilson 0
After a tough 6-5 loss to Hurricane on Saturday Colby Johnson was just what the doctor ordered for Greenbrier East to get back into the win column. The Spartans, No. 5 in the most recent Metro News AAA Power Rankings, played host to Woodrow Wilson on Monday night and Johnson spun a complete game 6-0 shutout on just 85 pitches for the win.
Johnson, a University of Charleston recruit, was in complete control all evening allowing just four hits while striking out seven. Brandon Chandler went 2-for-3 to lead the Woodrow Wilson offense.
Johnson helped his own cause in the bottom of the 1st inning when he walked, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored what turned out to be the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Daylon Colley.
The Spartans put the game away with three runs in the 5th and two more in the 6th inning. Jonathan Carr (2-3, BB, R, RBI), Blake Colley (2-3, RBI) and Tanner McCallister (2-2, R) led the Greenbrier East nine hit attack.
