Buffalo 2, POCA 0
Buffalo senior Nick Whittington spun a one-hit complete game shutout Wednesday night to lead Buffalo past Poca. The right-hander carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning, allowing just a two-out double to Bubba Hill while striking out seven and issuing two walks.
The Dots, No. 10 in the most recent Metro News AA Power Rankings, got an outstanding pitching performance as well from Brett Watts who went six innings allowing just five hits. The senior lefty stranded seven base runners on the evening but Buffalo finally got to him in the bottom of the 5th inning for the game's only two runs.
The inning started harmlessly as Watts got the first out via a strikeout, his 5th of the evening. The Buffalo rally began with an Ian O'Donnell double and Whittington followed with a double of his own to drive home O'Donnell with what turned out to be the winning run. A third double in as many batters from Connor Fields scored O'Donnell with the second and final run of the inning.
Buffalo had just five hits on the evening, but coincidentally all were for extra bases. Michael Haber (2-3, 2B, 3B) led the Bison offense on the evening with the lone multi-hit night for either team.
