It has been a busy month in Pennsylvania and West Virginia with the completion of the Fall College Prospect Program, the start of the indoor schedule of PBR events, prospects showing well in Fort Myers and Jupiter, and plenty of commitments. Following is (Part One) of a look at some of the highlights for the month of October.

+ The Fall College Prospect Program came to a conclusion with the loan stop in West Virginia at Alderson Broaddus University. Pitchers stood out at the final leg of the 11 college tour with RHP Shane Ennis (Hampshire HS, WV) touching 88 mph two days after quarterbacking his high school football team. LHP Zach Guth (Franklin Area HS, PA) wrapped up an impressive run of performances during the fall. He made six appearances in the fall program logging a total of 18 innings of work. Guth put up eye popping numbers with 40 strikeouts, more than two an inning, while sitting 84-86. He also touched 87 mph on a number of occasions while displaying run and cut fastball options.

+ To date, 12 prospects that participated in the fall program have announced their college commitments. With C Mason Prickett's commitment to Pitt Johnstown yesterday, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has landed half of them.

+ Two prospects that have attended multiple PBR events have announced commitments to service academy programs. 3B/1B Stuart Schley (Orville HS, OH) has committed to West Point following a strong performance in the fall program at La Roche College. OF Cody Bain (Blackhawk HS, PA), a member of the Team PA roster at the 2012 Midwest Future Games, has announced his plans to play for the United States Coast Guard Academy.

+ The PA Class of 2015 continues to impress with a number of major commitments this month including No. 1 ranked SS/RHP Kyle Datres (Loyalsock Township) to North Carolina, No. 5 ranked RHP Eli Nabholz (Pottsville Area HS) to Penn State, No. 9 ranked LHP Dylan Cyphert (Cranberry HS) to Penn State, No. 20 ranked C Ryan Sloniger (Punxsutawney HS) to Penn State, and No. 22 ranked OF Cameron Simmons (Spring-Ford HS) to Virginia.

+ With the recent commitments in the PA Class of 2015, 15 of the top 22 ranked prospects in the class have now announced their college plans. The ACC leads the way with 10 commitments among the group, followed by the Big Ten (3) and SEC (2).

+ The big news out of West Virginia was the commitment of No. 1 ranked Class of 2016 SS/RHP Logan Goodnight (The Linsly School) to Penn State. Goodnight's commitment is the fifth among highly ranked Class of 2015 and 2016 prospects in PA and WV to Penn State.

+ The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference is making some noise as well. PSAC schools have landed nine recruits in the top 100 ranked prospects in the PA Class of 2014. All told PSAC schools have received commitments from 27 prospects in the PA Class of 2014 rankings with 2013 NCAA Division II World Series participant Shippensburg leading the way with six. Indiana University of PA (IUP) follows closely behind with five commitments from ranked players in the class. Millersville, Pitt Johnstown and Slippery Rock have each received commitments from three prospects in the class rankings. Slippery Rock's three commitments, C Christian Porterfield (West Middlesex HS, No. 37), C Tyler Walters (Saegertown HS, No. 38) and OF Jordan Miller (Tyrone HS, No. 42) gives The Rock three commitments among the top 42 ranked players in the class.
