Concord University Announces 2015 Early Signing Class

Concord University head coach Andrew Wright recently announced the signing of 10 players to National Letters of Intent during the November early signing period.  The Mountain Lions come off an impressive 2014 campaign in which they went 38-16, losing the West Virginia State in the newly formed Mountain East Conference Tournament Championship.

2015 Early Commits

OF Ryan Davis (Radford HS, VA)

Wright: Ryan has explosive speed and closes the gaps in center field.  He fits our offensive style and what we look for in our outfielders defensively.

OF Adam Linkous (Blacksburg HS, VA) 

Wright: Adam is an athlete with a very high ceiling.  He has pop, can run and possesses a strong arm.  He was a no-brainer for us as he fits what we are trying to do.

RHP Ethan Miller (Deep Run HS, VA) 

Wright: Ethan commands three pitches for strikes.  His arm works easy and there is much more in the tank.

1B Nick Moglia (Brick Township HS, NJ) 

Wright: Nick's ceiling is very, very high.  He participated in the International Power Showcase in Miami and I don't think he has scratched the surface on how good he could be.

RHP Trevor Mullins (Bluefield HS, WV) - PBR Rank #17

Wright: Trevor is a great pickup for us.  He possesses a mid 80's fastball and commands his secondary stuff very well.  He is a young 2015 graduate and I believe there is much more in the tank.

OF Shawn Nickles (Colonial Forge HS, VA) 

Wright: Shawn is a big time hitter.  His swing is clean and very aggressive and he displayed an advanced ability to hit when our staff saw him. 

SS Brett Simmons (Boones Mill HS, VA) 

Wright: Brett's athleticism and knowledge of the game made him a can't miss for us.  We have really made a push to be the best fielding team in Division II baseball and he fits well with what we are trying to accomplish. 

Util Scottie Thompson (Chapmanville Regional HS, WV) 

Wright: Scottie has a clean left handed swing and his versatility defensively make him a great pick up for us.

RHP Killian Tooze (Forest Park HS, VA)

Wright: Killian is a strike thrower.  He has three pitches he can throw for strikes which is something we really put an emphasis on in this class.

RHP Noah Tucker (Tuscarora HS, MD)

Wright: Noah is a competitor and throws strikes.  I was able to see him get a lot of outs against very good competition with the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox.

Q&A With the Coach

PBR: What do you feel are the strengths of this recruiting class?

Wright: The for arms that we have added are strike throwers. We have put a huge emphasis on pitchability and these guys all fit the bill.  From a position player standpoint, each of the players have at least one separating tool.  We are trying to establish ourselves as one of the top defensive programs in the country and I believe that the defensive additions certainly fall in line with that vision.  Offensively, we have added some pop, ability to hit and ability to change the game with speed.   It is about as well rounded a class as we have brought in over the last five years.

PBR: What advice would you have for underclassmen just beginning the recruiting process that might help them in this process?

Wright: First, identify the factors that will make your decision.  When you know what is important to you, the decision making is much easier.  The first question our staff asks a prospective student athlete is "What are the three factors that will make your decision?"  Often times the answers to that question allow us to identify whether or not they are a GREAT fit at Concord.  We are dedicated to finding the RIGHT players for our program, not the BEST players.  For guys who have a tough time with that question, we ask them to envision what they expect out of their college baseball experience.  Second, be as transparent in the process as possible.  Over communicate with everyone in the recruiting process so everyone is on the same page.
